Australia has a long and proud history - and not just since the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788. Indigenous Australians settled the land more than 50000 years before Europeans even set eyes on this vast continent. So while most Australian history books concentrate on the many exciting terrifying glorious or shameful historic events that have occurred over the last 200 to 250 years many equally astonishing events would have occurred before then.
