Description - Myles and Milo by Peter Meredith

Myles Joseph Dunphy (1891-1985), draughtsman, architect, conservationist and bushwalker, proposed and mapped a system of national parks in New South Wales and lived to see it become a reality. He is considered the father of the NSW conservation and bushwalking movements, a pioneer in a field that was beginning to take root in his youth. His son Milo Kanangra Dunphy, also an architect and a bushwalker, devoted his life to expanding his father's work.

Milo grew up to relish the outdoors as much as his father did and, like his father, carried on a life-long struggle to protect his beloved wilderness. During their lives, both men were honoured nationally and internationally for their contributions to environmentalism in Australia and overseas. They were heroes in a movement that has turned Australia into a model for the rest of the world.

This biography will explore the life of each man individually, but since each life is so closely interwoven with the other, it will also show the nature of this relationship. The one cannot be treated without the other; Milo is as much a product of his father's ideas and temperament as he is of his era.
