I have been intrigued with mountain lions since I was a little girl and my mamaw told me the story of her Granny Chappell running away from a mountain lion that chased her. Granny Chappell was a pioneer. She went out west with her husband to obtain free land and farm. She was walking across the prairie when a mountain lion started after her and she started to run. We know now that you should not run away from any wild animal. Experts on the subject say you should make yourself look as big as possible and make a lot of loud noise. A friend saw her running and the mountain lion behind her running but he was so far across the prairie he could not get to her in time to help her so he said he just said RUN FAN RUN!! They called my Granny Chappell Fan. Well....she made it to the entrance of the cabin and collapsed from exhaustion. I have always thought that I come from a strong stock of women. Women who go do daring things like pioneer AND RUN FROM MOUNTAIN LIONS AND LIVE! These things make my day seem a little easier. So of course I was the first to ask questions when I heard about our neighbors the Hemrics on Hemric Mountain sighting a mountain lion. In fact I went to investigate. I talked Vonda Hemric who informed me of all the sightings and even allowed my husband and I to place a trail camera near where they were sighting the mountain lion. I decided to write this children's story for fun but the mountain lion sightings I tell about in the book are true. I hope to be able to place a trail camera picture of the mountain lion at the end of this book upon completion of the book!
