Description - Bruno Cattani by Sandro Parmiggiani

Bruno Cattani gave the challenging title "Memories" to this photographic investigation which began a few years ago revisiting a few glimpses of his birthplace, Reggio Emilia, and then continued and developed in other spots: here we have before us fragments of views of the city and the countryside, the sea and the mountain, images of the golden days of childhood and places left behind. The world often appears to be seen through a kind of filter making the picture opaque, less clear and more penetrating, in an air of twilight and haze, steeped in a grieving, anguishing sense of time: this filter is memory's eyeglass with which we look at something that stirs in us some remote recollection, maybe on the verge of what is conscious and what remains in the unconscious or halfway between. These pictures by Cattani seem to be the vision that someone in exile might have of his homeland, evocations coming from far away, recalled from an "other" world where, perhaps, we once lived. They are steeped in the elegiac tone of something lost and which cannot return, the colour of memory. Text in English & Italian.
