A home nurse shows up at Homicide South and reports a confession to NYPD Detective Darlene O'Hara. Gus Henderson, a former junkie suffering from Alzheimer's, claims that 17 years ago, he murdered his partner and buried him in a park on Avenue B. When the police reluctantly agree to excavate, they find a body-just not the one they were looking for.

The cops unearth the skeleton of a young boy, neatly dressed and buried ceremoniously. O'Hara must now find the murderer of a child, and the trail leads from the seediest corners of the city to a sleepy retirement community in Florida.
