Das Buch dokumentiert etwa 22 Bauten von 1990 bis 2008; zu ihnen gehören die alte Stadtbibliothek und die Kunsthalle Portikus in Frankfurt am Main, die European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel, das Büro- und Geschäftszentrum Lindencorso in Berlin, das Bürohaus Arca in Frankfurt am Main sowie die Hauptverwaltung der KPMG Deutsche Treuhandgesellschaft in Berlin.
Christoph Mäckler’s architecture is distinguished by its reconciliation of tradition and modernity. Mäckler seeks to reconnect architecture with its premodern roots. A pivotal role in his efforts is played by the restoration of surface and volume in the facade and the understanding of the building’s material properties. Christoph Mäckler won the Schinkelpreis (Schinkel Award) in 1979. In 1981 he established his own firm for architecture and city planning in Frankfurt am Main.
With his outstanding structures, Christoph Mäckler has set new architectural standards. This book documents some twenty-two buildings from 1990 to 2008, including the Alte Stadtbibliothek (Old City Library) and Kunsthalle Portikus (Portikus Art Gallery) in Frankfurt am Main, the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel, the Lindencorso office complex and shopping center in Berlin, the Arca office building in Frankfurt am Main, and the headquarters of KPMG Deutsche Treuhandgesellschaft (KPMG German Trust Corporation) in Berlin.
