Description - Contraluz by Juan Gatti

Juan Gatti (Buenos Aires, 1950) is one most famous international photographers and graphic designers in Spain. Well-known for his collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar, he is the creator of graphics for his feature films, such as Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Tie Me Up, Heels, Talk to Her, Bad Education, Return and Broken Embraces. He has also been the designer and photographer for advertising campaigns for fashion brands such as Sybilla, Jesús del Pozo, Purification Garcia and Zara. In 2004 he received the Spanish National Design Award. Contraluz (meaning Backlight) is his most cutting edge personal work. For the first time in his long career, Gatti explores the possibilities of black and white photographic lighting, creating a succession of different sensory experiences, which are almost abstract. In total there are 40 images which, as the title suggests, use the back light. This publication also contains images like x-rays, where the light isolates the object. Contraluz is a journey through the inside world of Gatti, dark and neutral, but, as his best editorial work, this book is a testiment to the beauty of things. Text in English & Spanish. ILLUSTRATIONS: 100 b/w photographs
