Hortly after the death of the late Dr. Phillips, his widow commenced the preparation of a bio graphy, and completed a first draft of that portion which dealt with the career of Dr. Phillips previous to his connection with the Sunday School Union. The first twelve chapters of the present book consist of the work of Mrs. Phillips, considerably revised, enlarged, and in part rewritten.
