Description - El Chacho - Ultimo Caudillo De La Montonera De Los Llanos by Domingo Faustino Sarmiento

"El Chacho - Ultimo Caudillo De La Montonera De Los Llanos", written by Domingo F. Sarmiento, contains 180 pages and is in Spanish. Domingo F. Sarmiento's book about general Angel Vicente Pealoza. The "Chacho", must be counted among the testimonies on the difficulties all too frequently encountered by "civilization" when, in the need to interact with "barbarism" , puts its civilised condition at stakes. In 1862, by the time Sarmiento was appointed Governor of the Argentine province of San Juan, the vast zone was still harassed by the "montoneras" hordes of former "Federal" irregular troops, which had not been able to accept the peace agreements between the "Unitarians" of Buenos Aires, led by Bartolome Mitre, and the "Federals" of Urquiza, who represented the provinces. Sarmiento's position was not an easy one: his closest friend Aberastain, who had preceeded him as San Juan Governor, had been murdered by Juan Saa's cronies, another montonero Chieftain appointed as the San Luis neighbouring province Governor.
This book, altogether with "Facundo, or civilization and barbarism", represents the regard of an extraordinarily intelligent person - constrained by his civilized manners - over two of the most prominent "barbarians" of his times.
