Description - Energy Efficiency in Old Houses by Martin Godfrey Cook

Most people in the UK live in an old house built before the age of modern building regulations and energy-efficiency standards, and one in four of us lives in a house that is at least a century old. However, it is possible to upgrade our existing housing stock and to live in our old houses in an energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable way. In an age of relentless rising energy costs, global warming and climate change, it pays to put your own old house in order. This invaluable book is packed full of useful information and tips to improve the energy efficiency of your old house particularly now we are in the age of Home Information Packs and Energy Performance Certificates. All aspects of energy efficiency in houses of all ages, from medieval timber-framed homes to post-war semi-detached dwellings are covered including energy efficiency improvements in a range of houses from traditionally constructed old houses with solid walls, to modern cavity-walled homes of impervious materials such as cement and plastic. There are numerous useful case studies provided which illustrate how principles were put into successful practice to save energy, money and the environment.
