Description - Financing China's Rural Enterprises by Jun Li
This book examines the development of China's rural enterprises over the reform period from a business finance perspective. Rural enterprises have played an important role in the extraordinary success of China's economy over the last two decades, have greatly increased off-farm employment in the rural areas, and have brought substantially increased incomes and standards of living to many rural people. From the perspective of the financing of rural enterprises, Li concludes that the rapid growth of rural enterprise cannot be ascribed to any single factor. It is the product of an economic system in continuous and dynamic reform. At the enterprise level, managers have used the opportunities for enterprise finance available in the economic environment, and local government has played an important role in the process. The book addresses the multiple factors involved, including the growth of rural enterprises and enterprise-level behaviour, the role of state policy, rural financial institutions, and local government, in a new and comprehensive way, challenging the existing literature.
It will be of interest to students of Chinese economic reform, rural development and development studies.
