Secretary's MessageThe book presents these main ideas:Germs are very tiny living things that cause sickness. There are too small for us to see. We need a microscope to see them.Some germs live inside people's chests and lungs. They are spread by coughing and spitting.Some germs live inside people's stomachs and intestines. They are spread in excreta.Some germs get on food, on hands, under fingernails and in water. They cause diarrhoea sickness.Some animals carry germs from one place to another.We can fight germs or kill them in different ways. For example. boiling water, heat and sunlight all kill germs. Eating good food and being immunized help the body fight germs. A clean home and village help keep germs away.This book is one of the items of instructional material produced for Community School in Papua New Guinea as part of the EDUCATION II Textbook Sub-project. -- S.G.
