Description - Grass in the Storm by Andrew J Szabo

This is an autobiography, i.e. a memoir. The first volume starts with my memories from childhood, under the authoritarian Horthy government, continues with my escape from the staging area, where the nazi ArrowCross man took me to deport to the concentration camps in Germany. In the next chapters I describe my life hiding first in a Catholic monastery, than at the home of our former housekeeper. After the war the chapters contain my memories about school, friends, and my first loves, and finally the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and my escape to the West. The second volume contains my experiences as an immigrant, then my life as a medical student at McGill University in Montreal, my married life, my postgraduate training and finally, my immigration to the United States. In this part I describe my work as a professor, as a researcher and as a doctor. I write about the difficulties of married life of two professionals, both without money, about the problems and rewards of having a child. At the end I write about my retirement, about finding a partner after my wife's death, and about my conclusions about the life, the World and in particular the US.
