As Jeffrey Meyers writes in his Introduction- " Poe remains contemporary because he appeals to basic human feelings and expresses universal themes common to all men in all languages- dreams, love, loss; grief, mourning, alienation; terror, revenge, murder; insanity, disease, and death."
