Multiple lines of evidence of early and potentially independent agricultural development are presented for areas often considered peripheral to traditional centres of 'agricultural origins'. Research from additional regions across the globe highlights the diversity of concepts used to think about agriculture and the diversity of agricultural practices in the past and present.
