Description - The Sentence Processing Resource Pack by Jane Marshall

This three-volume pack has been designed to fill the gap in the availability of sentence-level materials for use by aphasia therapists. Addressing this need, the authors have combined to produce a practical handbook backed up by two test modules, all of which have been designed for the speech & language therapist directly involved in treating aphasic people with sentence-level deficits. The pack is comprised of three books: An introduction to the processes involved in sentence production and comprehension, offering suggestions about ways to assess sentence-level disorders and providing guidance for therapy. The authors are concerned with the expression and interpretation of sentence-level meanings. This test explores event processing skills and tests whether individuals can derive semantic information from pictures of events. It contains 63 items, all of which have the same format. The top half of each page contains one central picture, the bottom half contains two - the target and a distractor. The task is to compare the target with the top picture. The test uses 20 target verbs, each of which appears three times.
This test is designed to discover if the client can understand reversible active sentences with a range of verbs, adjectives and prepositions as their main predicate. The client is asked to select an appropriate picture after hearing or seeing a sentence. They then have to form a representation of that sentence and hold on to it long enough to guide and constrain their picture selection.
