Description - The Static Caravan Story: Britain’s Favourite Holiday Home by Andrew Jenkinson

This is the story of the static caravan holiday home, from its origins in the 1930s and 1940s when touring caravanners often found a spot on a plot of land on a farm and pitched up until winter. This encouraged other caravanners, and sites sprang up, as manufacturers began designing caravans for this sole purpose. The mobile home first appeared with postwar housing shortages but by the 1960s holiday caravans were larger and specifically designed for holiday let. The '60s/'70s saw new models become more home-like, and the 1980s saw another surge in designs. With over 30 manufacturers, exports into Europe were high too. With 250 images and many contributors' memories, this book brings the story up to 2018 and shows how sophisticated the static holiday home has become. AUTHOR: Andrew Jenkinson has published 11 books on touring caravan history and motorhome history and writes for Practical Caravan, Practical Motorhome, The Caravan Club, Scottish Caravans Motorhome magazine, Park Home and Holiday Home magazines. The UK's caravan/motorhome/ holiday home expert, he has appeared on TV and radio and has gathered a vast archive stretching back to the 1920s. He also tests new and used tourers and holiday homes, belongs to two historic caravan clubs, produces caravan calendars and cards, and has a heritage caravan holiday home facebook page. 140 images
