Description - Tiger Tales: Stories of the Tasmanian Tiger by Col Bailey

Of all Australian's unique and special fauna, extinct or extant, the Tasmanian tiger, or thylacine, is perhaps the most enduringly fascinating of all. Like the dodo, the flightless bird of Mauritius, who met its grisly demise at the hands of over-zealous hunters, the Tasmanian tiger has a sorry place in the history of humanity's all-out assault on the natural environment. And yet it continues to capture the imagination of people around the world. "Tiger hunter", Col Bailey has been researching and collecting stories about the "Tassie" tiger for over 30 years, and when not writing his column "Tiger Tales"for the "Derwent Valley Gazette"and running the Tasmanian Tiger Research and Information Centre in Maydena, can be found trampling the virgin bush of south-west Tasmania, searching for a creature which he believes is still alive and well, if a little warier of humans than it has been in the past. This text presents a selecetion of his findings.
