Description - To the Gates of Richmond by Stephen W. Sears
This is a history of the largest and bloodiest campaign of the American Civil War - one in which a quarter of a million men fought, and one in four died. In the Peninsula Campaign, General George McClellan attempted to oust the Confederates from their Richmond headquarters. Through the spring and summer of 1862, battle raged across the Virginia Peninsular, and after initial success the Union forces failed to reach the heart of the Rebel army. McClellan was forced to retreat.
