Description - Studying Minority Adolescents: Conceptual, Methodological, and Theoretical Issues by Vonnie C. McLoyd

The ethnic and racial composition of adolescence in America is undergoing rapid and significant change as we approach the closing decade of the 20th century. By the end of this century, approximately one third of all American young people will be from ethnic minority backgrounds. Despite these changing demographics, very little research to date has examined ethnic variations in developmental processes. In 1993, the Society for Research on Adolescence convened a study group of senior scholars to examine current thinking about ethnicity and adolescent development and to suggest new directions for future research. This volume collects the papers that were written as a result of this study group's work. This text presents recent theoretical, conceptual and methodological work on ethnicity and development during adolescence. It is concerned with how researchers interested in adolescence might think about incorporating ethnicity into their research.
